Manifesto
As members of parliament from countries all over the world, representing millions of citizens, we have come together to form an Interparliamentary Coalition to End Plastic Pollution. This coalition enables us to play a proactive role in tackling this global plight. We are well aware that failure to act can only lead to disaster, with devastating consequences for the world’s climate, biodiversity and Mankind.

a manifesto for action and accountability
As members of parliament from countries all over the world, representing millions of citizens, we have come together to form an Interparliamentary Coalition to End Plastic Pollution. This coalition enables us to play a proactive role in tackling this global plight. We are well aware that failure to act can only lead to disaster, with devastating consequences for the world’s climate, biodiversity and humankind.
We are all well aware of the harmful consequences of plastic pollution and of the need to act now, with due consideration for the specific characteristics of our respective environments, national economies and communities. At the same time, we know that plastic pollution transcends national borders. So we need to find both local and international solutions.
We are confident that our joint commitment to the Coalition will bolster our convictions, our capacity to act and to leverage our influence.
Together, we will build a collaborative approach to :
1. Lobby in our parliaments for the adoption of legislation to reduce plastic pollution as well as challenge our governments both during parliamentary debates and through written and oral questions.
2. Alert our parliamentary colleagues to the dangers of this pollution, and invite them to rally to our cause.
3. Foster ongoing communication with public authorities, the scientific community, NGOs and the corporate sector.
4. Share all initiatives among ICEPP members to foster mutual inspiration.
5. Support, when the time comes, the ratification of the international treaty against plastic pollution in our respective national parliaments.
Our initiatives will comply with the agenda of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee, but will also extend beyond it. Whatever the outcome of the negotiations, the Coalition will pursue its efforts. Mindful that tackling plastic pollution is a long-term fight, we are committed to raising awareness, sharing information, and taking consistent, determined action to help eradicate this menace.
